Primrose Free Range Eggs

Primrose Free Range Eggs based in Wragby, have supplied us since day one. We sell both their medium and large eggs in the shop, use their eggs in our bakery and also serve their eggs in our cafe!

Q. How did you start your business?
A. We started with one free range unit ten years ago and have since added two further units. Eight years ago I began retailing our eggs under our own label of Primrose Free Range Eggs and now supply over 120 local outlets with our eggs.

Q. Where are you based?
A. We are based just outside of Wragby, Lincolnshire.

Q. Why is it so important to you to be free range?
A. The welfare of the birds are first and foremost. Our eggs are fully accredited to the RSPCA freedom food scheme, which ensure the highest standards of both welfare and production methods are maintained. All the hens are fed on high quality feed and the green grass of Lincolnshire.

Today, our commitment to quality means that in addition to our own high standards our eggs are laid by hens which are protected by the five freedoms:

  1. Freedom from hunger and thirst by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigour.
  2. Freedom from discomfort by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area.
  3. Freedom from pain, injury and disease by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.
  4. Freedom to express normal behaviour by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and a company of the animals’ own kind.
  5. Freedom from fear and distress ensuring conditions and care which avoid mental suffering.

This means that when you buy our Primrose Hill Free Range Eggs you can be guaranteed that not only have they been produced to the very highest standards, but also the welfare and environmental conditions are far higher than is required by law.

Q. Where is your business now heading?
A. We will continue to produce free range eggs and build on our customer data base and eventually pass on the business to our children who are carrying on the family farming business.

John Watson Woodcraft

John’s talents for creating attractive woodcraft products are amazing! We stock a wide selection of his practical kitchen items such as butcher's blocks and chopping boards and also more gift items such as candle holders and signs. Each item is beautifully hand crafted and bespoke. We can also arrange for John to commission individual works for you if you have something specific in mind.

Q. How did you start your business?
A. I founded John Watson Woodcraft in 2012, having always had an interest in woodworking and restoring and making things. Also with a background in catering, I like using quality wooden chopping boards and butchers blocks. I enjoy the design and build part of the process, which means I make many bespoke items sometimes out of salvaged wood.

Q. Where are you based? And how important for you is it to source local?
A. I live next door to Uncle Henry's so apart from what they grow themselves, I am their most local supplier! I have access to several salvage yards and also a variety of timber from fallen trees that may have ended up on the fire! It is always rewarding to make something useful from rescued wood, such as coat pegs or even reindeer from windfall and hedgerow! I also responsibly source a variety of wood from suppliers to make high quality items such as end grain oak and beech chopping boards.

Q. Where is your business now heading?
A. With the help of local retailers such as Uncle Henry's, the business is starting to expand and my products are reaching a wider market, with the aim of stocking more shops in neighbouring counties such as Yorkshire.

I enjoy making and restoring a wide range of products, from tired garden furniture to bespoke signs and many items for the kitchen and home. In the modern consumer age I find it satisfying to produce handmade items that often give salvaged wood a new purpose.
